Blue Economy is published by the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), Egypt.

The National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), is one of the eleven national research institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt. The mandate of NIOF is to “maintain, protect, and promote the different Egyptian aquatic environments.” Historically, the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries was first established in 1918 by Sultan Fouad. The headquarters are located in Cairo. NIOF comprises four branches that carry out research in specific thematic and geographic areas as follows: Mediterranean Sea Branch, Gulfs of Suez and Aqaba Branch, Inland Water and Aquaculture Branch, and Red Sea Branch.

The mission of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries is “to achieve sustainable development of marine and fresh water resources through increasing their potential for food production, combating pollution from all sources and working towards reducing poverty and improving standard of living by developing and introducing new techniques in fisheries and aquaculture.” This could only be achieved through basic scientific and applied research activities in different fields of oceanography, fisheries, and aquaculture, upgrading the level of marine scientific research and exploration survey in Egypt to improve its position among the countries in the field of marine science, and transferring new technologies to Egypt that help to decrease the technology gaps in this field.
